Check out the Blog Tour for The Choice by Lorhainne Eckhart Be sure to stop at for my review on the 20th March 2012 I don t want to start off on a sour spot with this novel, but it is a blurb novel This is the only reason it got bumped down to 4 stars instead of the 5 it deserved It was just the blurb that got to me It gave away too much information I read the blurb after I finished the novel and it just gave away too much of the story line When I joined the blog tour at the beginning, I completely forgot what it said just before I started reading the novel, so I went into the book with a clear head If the blurb wasn t that revealing, we would be in for twists and turns and many surprises below I ve stated some of the parts where this book has surprised me without reading the blurb first Ok, I shall stop rambling and get onto the rest of the review When we start the nove it is already intriguing and pulling us in from the first few chapters We start to uncover parts of Marcie s life with her as if starting afresh It makes it easier to develop that character reader relationship that s so important in novels ebcause we start to learn along with Marcie as we uncover what her life was like and the previous choices she has made.I expected something different than what we were given I so totally expected a mystery novel and I got very surprised when I see other elements in this novel as well I was going into the novel expecting something different than what I usually read, but I m not sure if this is classified as my usual I ended up really liking it, yet if a book like this one was not done right, it would be tragic This is the kind of type of novel that needs to be done right, and that s exactly what this novel does.It is Oh So Sexy and intriguing It pulls you right in, I can t stop reading, and when I m not reading, I start to think about the novel It does not fail to surprise me, in the way that I thought the book was going to be one kindof novel, when it turns out being a whole different kind of novel, and you don t even expect it Ahh Sam, you smexy thing, you are such a tightly wound one, he needs to get loose and come to understand and have an open mind to Marcie s beliefs etc I so want to shoot Dan, and Lance, yet we wonder what happens afterwards with Dan from Lance, and if Lance will pull through with his agreement He doesn t say that he agrees, so we are left in the dark as the novel finishes to come up with our own The way the novel finishes, is on a note that can either be turned into a second novel or be left as a stand alone We do think about what might happen next, yet it s not a cliffhanger, leaving room for an open decision on a continuation

Please note I read this book in January 2012 from a copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review All opinions are my own.My Synopsis Marcie is crazy in love with Dan, and will do anything for him even carry marijuana on the plane from Washington state to New Orleans However, once there she is robbed and shoved, hitting her head on the cement in the process and losing her memory Enter Sam, a former DEA agent whose investigation against Lance Silver one of the biggest drug lords that runs the west coast has just gone south, leaving him confused and seeking solace in his home town His chivalrous nature causes him to stop to help Marcie and he ends up entangled in her mess As they explore the problem, and their pasts, and Marcie starts to listen to her spirit guides, they learn that they are embroiled in a generations long struggle with a dark entity, who seeks to destroy them as it has destroyed their ancestors Marcie needs to make a choice, to turn back and walk the right path Is she strong enough to do so My Thoughts A mystical romantic suspense, The Choice is a fascinating read, and one I highly enjoyed I was particularly impressed with the author s knowledge of Tarot and how to read the cards This book rates up with Doorway to the Triquetra as far as the importance of its lessons, and anyone interested in spirituality should enjoy this book as much as I did I liked how the author developed the characters, and I especially liked the character of Diane I d love to see a book focusing on her, as I think she is a fascinating character Strongly recommended for fans of romance, romantic suspense, and spirituality.Edited additional information I should point out that I normally don t like romance novels, so they have to be something special for me to enjoy them, and this one was It is also the first book in a series there are four books total, or you can buy a box set with all four books rather than picking them up individually If you like this author s style, she has a number of other books and another series In fact, there is currently a giveaway running for her Outsider series, you can check that out here starting 11 21 13.

A large scale marijuana operation, a drug lord, dirty cops DEA agents, a tarnished reputation, old letters, ghosts and a dark entity from the past come together in this contemporary romance with some paranormal aspects This is a story about a woman who forgets her roots, gets taken in by a man full of and surrounded by dark entities, is manipulated into becoming his drug mule and marijuana cultivator, loses her memory, meets a good man and they, along with some friends, set out to bring this very bad man to justice.DEA Agent Sam was set up to take the fall by a drug lord He sees a snatch and grab in the airport and sees Marcie go down He can t help himself, he has to help her and go to the hospital with her and invite her to stay with him at his house He feels a need to protect her Later he finds he can t keep his hands off her.Marcie is being used as a mule by her boyfriend, Dan, who unbeknownst to her is a magic manipulator She is mugged in the airport and her scalp is ripped open when her head hits the floor She has a bad concussion and can t remember anything but her first name She thinks she s crazy when she starts feeling others emotions She s seeing dead people and guardians in her dreams After she regains her memory, she knows she sees dead people while she s awake too She thought she was in love with Dan until she meets Sam and he helps her. While this has some paranormal elements in it, a Wiccan in need of getting back to her roots and the Spirit and a man possessed and surrounded by a dark entities, this is not what most would consider a paranormal romance But it is a good contemporary romance with a little bit of sex in it.Warning Spoiler Alert This has a HEA ending.

Actual Rating 3.6 This was an enjoyable read I thought the story could have been suspenseful However, I thought the supernatural element of the story was unique I never would have expected a supernatural element in a romantic suspense novel The characters were enjoyable I thought the relationship between Marcie and Sam was a lot better than the relationship between Marcie and Dan That can be due to the fact that I did not like Dan as a character Overall, an interesting and great read.

Sam and Marcie s lives intersect at a crucial juncture Marcie has gotten herself in too deep in the world of high grade marijuana, and Sam has left the DEA to do his own investigation to discover who set him up as the fall guy in an international drug bust gone bad Both victims of past love, there is a lot of mistrust between them But they hold on to each other throughout and keep each other safe. The Choice by Lorhainne Eckhart has an interesting paranormal twist Marcie is able to read auras and has several spirit guides If only she had listened to them earlier, she wouldn t have ended up in the mess she did Now she s given a second chance to change the path her life is on, and she has some difficult choices to make. The Choice is a book filled with suspense and characters that draw the reader in The mystery and intrigue keep you turning the pages Though it is a little cookie cutter suspense at times, the paranormal twist adds to the uniqueness of the book, letting the reader overlook that.As I read the book, I grew fond of most of the characters, but I admit, I never really clicked with Marcie, unfortunately She is well portrayed by Lorhainne Eckhart in the beginning as a victim of childhood abuse who puts all her self worth in the hands of others, one man in particular A simple thing such as not opening a door for her can send her into a downward spiral of self doubt and abandonment As the plot progressed, I hoped her character would grow out of some of this as she developed a sense of self worth that came from inside of her, as she made better choices What I got was a woman who simply switched which man s hands carried her self esteem Despite this quirk in her personality, I was still going to give the book a solid four stars But then the ending of the book was not what I expected There was too much left hanging In a good suspense novel, most loose ends are tied up, and if the author is looking to write a sequel, a mystery or two is left to entice the reader to buy the next book This ending simply confirmed things the characters already knew instead of bringing to light new knowledge Too much went unsolved I needed resolution I believe that Lorhainne Eckhart is a wonderful author her technique as a writer is excellent and her plots are engaging and entertaining In this particular book, though, I felt that some of the subplots could have been left out to leave room for growth and resolution I give the book three and a half stars.

originally appeared on Bookshelf Confessions I won a free copy of this e book in a LibraryThing Member Giveaway The Choice literally the title of the book says what it it s content..The book is all about making and doing the right choices in life that would lead our heroine to destruction or salvation..the story is soo good,..with good moral lessons from here and there..it opens readers minds to simple things like listening and following advicesthe story is well written and the characters are depicted for the ease of the readers..though there are really some grammars which are wrong..it s understandable cause this just a pre copy of the book and still it s readable..the plot was really complex but it adds life to the book..as well as the the intriguing characters..the ending is somewhat hints the sequel of the second book..so yah..the ending isn t perfect Marcie Hollis is a Wiccan, who s always played by the rules That s until she meets Dan McKenzie, a man who she believes to be the knight in shining armor she s been searching for all her life However, Dan s not who he appears to be He lures Marcie into his world of lies, greed and high grade marijuana But fate intervenes on Marcie s illicit trip for Dan to New Orleans, when she s robbed in a crowded airport The thug not only makes off with her suspicious backpack, he knocks her down, her head slams on the concrete floor, and she loses her memory right in the path of DEA agent, Sam Carre After a six month investigation into the activities of a big time drug dealer crumbles, the same day damming evidence is found stuffed in Sam s locker evidence suggesting he s the notorious leak on the team, Sam jumps on the first plane home Arriving in a crowded airport in New Orleans his reputation and loyalty are in question But even though Sam s tired, disillusioned and haunted by a past that gives him no peace, he stops to help an attractive stranger when she falls in front of him Then in an act of chivalry, he takes her to his home until the police can identify her When questions arise about Marcie, and what she s involved in, the answers lead them to the exact felons Sam investigated in the Pacific Northwest When her illusive memory returns, this complex case pushes them both to explain the unexplainable, and leaves Sam with a haunting question Was she set up, or was this a game she played Sam s forced to make a choice, walk away from the attraction that connects them, or risk losing everything.

This book is a good mixture of thriller, action, mystery, romance, and a bit of supernatural thrown in for good measure The main character becomes a drug mule of sorts but things happens that put her into the path of the other main character who will become her love interest This is a long book, at times a bit too long, but the author managed to bring everything together really well in the end I like strong women so found that the female lead character was a bit too teary eyed all the time and gave up too much of her own identity for the dream of romance, an example being her running drugs like an idiot. However, the fact that I cared at all about the character shows that she was written well enough for me to even bother thinking about it She does have some supernatural powers that add a bit of spice to the book but I would have liked to have seen a bit done with them Then again I am a fan of those genres I did enjoy all the information the author gave me about various subjects I like books to be not only good stories but wells of information as well and Ms Eckhart delivers on this front Overall I did enjoy the book and am sure that the material this author writes, the better it will become.

From the beginning, I was enthralled with the way the author wove the details of this story together The incident where Marcie met Sam in New Orleans started a whole chain of events that kept the plot moving Between witchcraft, police business, marijuana grow ops and life on a small island, there was a lot going on all the time The secondary characters were interesting and they added to the overall mystery and to the romance blooming between our hero and heroine The villain was believable sometimes slimy and mean hearted and other times sweet like gooey candy that sticks to your teeth He brought another level of interest to a complicated intrigue This author has a wonderful talent of creating people with a depth of emotion, which makes them almost seem like friends rather than characters in a book Her talent is revealed in lines such as Her heart pounded when panic licked away her confidence, leaving her feeling shy and awkward I enjoyed this tale very much and I m looking forward to the next book from Ms Eckhart.

A very interesting and fascinating mystery, detective, romance novel I was intrigued by the way the author, through a woman s sense of the spirit world, delved into the crime world At the onset one would think that the story is going to be a detective story and how a drug operation is brought to an end but it is really a story on how a woman, through the choices she made ended up involved with both sides of the story Plus she is being aided by spirits from the past if she would only open up her senses and listen to what they have to say.I truly enjoyed the book and was fascinated by the story line If I had been told about some of the story line I probably would not have given the book a second look and I would be poorer for that choice It is a good read and I think will be enjoyed by readers with different tastes in their reading materials Excellent job.

Enter contest here book successfully blends universal spiritual beliefs and virtues with passionate players Although a little slow in the beginning, it redeemed itself quite nicely after about 60 or so pages With her finger on the pulse of human emotion and life choices very closely linked with everyday issues, Ms Eckhart is spot on with the chemistry between our hero and heroine Their lives are emotionally drained and to the brink of hopelessness, however their determination to stand up for what is right made me want to stand up and yell BRAVO This is what humanity is all about The darkness surrounding our characters metaphorically and physically bring realism to a world that does exist in society, and the way she masterfully works out each detail was brilliant.
